Who doesn’t love a quick and easy appetizer like chips and dips?

There’s something unbeatably delicious about the combination of chips and dip. Especially when it’s for a holiday party or game party.

I love making an appetizer for parties.

Appetizers are the key to keeping your guests happy.

Out of many appetizers, this Greek layer dip is my favorites.

In this dip, we combine all the flavors of the Mediterranean for an easy, make-ahead party appetizer.

This dip begins with a layer of freshly made hummus then it’s topped with a creamy, Tzatziki layer then a layer of English cucumbers, grape tomatoes,  kalamata olives, then finally it’s finished with feta and green onions.

I also like to drizzle some olive oil and sprinkle some sumac on the top!

Usually, party dips can be so indulgent but this one is just guiltless, loaded with healthier ingredients.

I’m completely hooked on this fresh Greek twist.

It contains all the building blocks of a perfect holiday party dip.

This unstoppably tasty Greek Layer Dip served with pita chips or veggies will be a fresh, colorful addition to your holiday party spread.

Ingredients required

  • Hummus – It serves as the base layer for the dip. It’s delicious and loaded with plant-based protein. I prefer to make my hummus at home. The process is really easy (Check out how to make hummus at home here). But you can easily use store-bought hummus.  I completely understand that during this time of the year, we get so busy and sometimes don’t have time to make it from scratch. So to make the process easy, use any brand hummus of your choice.
  • Tzatziki – Adds creaminess, flavors, and tang to the dip. I made Tzatziki sauce at home. Feel free to use store-bought ones.
  • Tomato – adds bold color and fresh flavor. I have used grape tomatoes for the best flavors. But you can use any tomatoes of your choice. Make sure to cut them into small cubes.
  • Cucumber – For the crunch and refreshing flavors. I used English cucumber. Feel free to use your choice of cucumber.
  • Feta Cheese – Delicious. You can use crumbled or a block of feta cheese.
  • Kalamata Olives – No Greek layer dip would be complete with Kalamata olives sprinkled into every bite. You can omit them if you don’t like olives.
  • Green onions – The perfect finishing touch of green that brings a delicious flair to the final dip.
  • Optional topping – I love to sprinkle some parsely.= for the freshness. If you don’t have fresh parsley, a little fresh mint, or basil. I also like to drizzle some olive oil and sumac. It gives it an amazing flavor burst and adds richness.
Pre measured ingredients for 7 layer greek dip

Step by step process.

Step – 1 Make Hummus and Tzatziki.

As mentioned above, I prefer to make my hummus and tzatziki sauce at home. But if you don’t have time, use your favorite hummus brand. I am sharing the hummus and Tzatziki recipes in the recipe card below.

Step – 2 gather all other ingredients.

Chop cucumber, tomatoes, green onions, and parsley. Crumble feta cheese (If using block feta).

Step – 3 pick a serving dish.

Usually, 7-layer dips are made in a shallow, glass baking dish. That way you can see the layers and easily measure the layers. You can do that with this Layered Greek Dip. But For the prettier look, I prefer to make this dip on a serving plate and build the layers pyramid-style. But you can choose whichever method you like.

Step – 4 Let make Greek layer dip

Spread hummus into a serving dish. Spread the Tzatziki on top of the hummus then top with cucumber, tomato, olives, feta cheese, and green onions.

Optional step – Then drizzle some olive oil and garnish it with fresh chopped parsley and Sumac.

Our 7 Layer Greek Dip is ready. Serve with pita chips, crostini, or veggies.

Note and quick FAQs

  • If you’re serving this for a large party, you can double the recipe or halve it for a small one.
  • Instead of regular hummus, you can use roasted red pepper hummus, edamame hummus, avocado hummus or any flavored hummus of your choice.
How to serve this greek hummus dip?

While pita chips are my favorite dipping this scrumptious dip, they are not the only option. Here are some other delicious options that pair well with this dip –
Pita bread
Broccoli
Bell pepper
Baby Carrots
Celery Sticks
Red Pepper Strips
Sugar peas
Pretzels or Tortilla Chips
Crostini
Naan

How to make this dip ahead of time?

I make my hummus and tzatziki dip ahead of time (it can be made 2 to 3 days in advance). I also prep the ingredients separately ahead of time (i.e. chopped the veggies, and crumbled the feta) and then quickly assemble the dip right before guests arrive.

What do I do with leftovers?

This dip can be stored for 2 to 3 days in the fridge. Below are some options of what to do with leftovers.
1 Take the Romaine lettuce and spread the dip in the middle of the lettuce and roll the lettuce.
2 Stir together the leftover dip and spoon it into tortillas. Roll them up, refrigerate for 30 minutes, and then slice into pinwheels.
3. Stir together the dip, take the pocket pita bread, stuff it with some falafel, some cucumber, lettuce, tomato and also add this dip. Enjoy the falafel sandwich.
4. You can also layer this dip in between the slices of bread or top this Greek dip on a toast.
Options are unlimited.

Can we make this vegan?

Yes, this dip can be easily made vegan. Everything except tzatziki and feta cheese is vegan. So make your vegan tzatziki dip by replacing regular greek yogurt with dairy-free yogurt.
And skip the feta cheese or use any non-dairy cheese.
