Home Made Tater Tots

These are so good that even adults go crazy for them. Homemade Tater tots are fun to make. These Tater tots are perfectly fluffy on the inside and golden brown and crispy on the outside. Russet potatoes are great for this recipe but I am sure any variety will work fine.

Home Made Tater Tots

There’s something great that happens when you shape grated potatoes into a perfectly cylindrical shape and fry them to a deep golden-brown color. They become light, crispy and airy.

How to make Tater Tots at Home?

1. Wash the potatoes and place them in boiling water (Don’t cut or peel the potatoes). Simmer the potatoes for about 10 minutes or until you can easily insert a knife through the center but are still firm. Drain them and cool it.

2. Peel the skin off. Now in a big mixing bowl, shred the potatoes using the largest size of your grater.

3. Now add all the remaining ingredients. Mix them until well combined.

4. Form the tots into a cylindrical shape and deep fry them until golden brown and crispy. Take them out on an absorbent paper, take some ketchup and dig in. 🙂

Important Tips –

If you don’t have garlic salt, add ½ tablespoon grated garlic and salt to taste.

You can use any herb of your choice.

Instead of corn starch, you may use all-purpose flour too.

Only partially boil the potatoes, not fully.

You can bake them too. Bake them in preheated oven @450 degree F. for about 20 to 25 minutes or until browned and crisp, turning them frequently during baking.

These freeze and reheat very well. All you do is place them on a  baking sheet, place them in the freezer for about an hour, then transfer them to a freezer-safe bag and store them. whenever you are ready to use, take them about and bake them for about 15 minutes in a 400-degree oven.

I had heard of tater tots but I didn’t know what they were. They are somehow a cross between duchess potatoes and Ukrainian latkes. Looks delicious
